cookie policy
We try to use as few cookies as possible. This policy explains exactly what we set, why, and how you can control it.

what are cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. They allow the website to remember information about your visit and are widely used to make websites work reliably.
Separately, websites can use your browser's localStorage to store small pieces of data that persist between sessions but are never sent to the server. LegacyCheck uses localStorage for one purpose only: remembering your cookie consent preference.

third-party integrations
One third-party service on LegacyCheck may set its own cookies or use browser signals:
cloudflare turnstile
Third-partyWhen you use our estate lookup tool, your browser communicates with Cloudflare to confirm you are human. As part of this challenge, Cloudflare may set its own cookies or use browser fingerprinting signals. We do not control these cookies and they are governed by Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
Cloudflare is based in the United States. Any data processed by Cloudflare is subject to their own data protection commitments.
what we do not use
We have made a deliberate choice to exclude:
- Analytics cookies — no Google Analytics, PostHog, Mixpanel, or similar tracking tools
- Advertising or retargeting cookies — we do not run ad campaigns that track you across the web
- Social media tracking pixels — no Facebook Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag, or similar
- Third-party marketing cookies — no data brokers, affiliate networks, or audience sharing
We believe families dealing with estate administration deserve a site that isn't watching them.
managing cookies
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to view, delete, or block individual cookies, or block all cookies from specific sites.
Please note: disabling the session cookie (legacycheck-session) will prevent core site functionality from working correctly, including form submissions.
To clear your cookie consent preference, open your browser's developer tools, navigate to Application → Local Storage → legacycheck.co.za, and delete the lc-cookie-consent key.
POPIA and your rights
Under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA), you have rights over the personal information we collect, including through cookies. See our Privacy Policy for your full rights and how to exercise them.
changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes.
